  • New T8500 single-axle and tandem-axle models
  • New horsepower and torque options
  • New Allison transmissions

2005 CHEVROLET AND GMC TILT CABS DELIVER MORE MODELS, MORE HORSEPOWER, NEW TRANSMISSIONS, NEW COMPONENTS AND NEW FEATURES

Popular with business owners who require a tilt cab with plenty of performance and outward visibility, the 2005 Chevrolet and GMC medium duty T-Series commercial trucks take greatness to the next level, with more models, more horsepower, new transmissions, new components and new features.

T8500 single-axle models with 33,000- to 39,000-pound GVWR and T8500 tandem-axle models with 53,220- to 56,000-pound GVWR have been added for 2005. The T8500 tandem axle models are available in wheelbases ranging from 152 to 260 inches (386 to 660 cm) and feature a 120,000-psi frame with L reinforcement. Also added for 2005 are T7500 and T8500 tractor options. These feature a 128-inch (325-cm) wheelbase and 96-inch (244-cm) cab-to-axle dimension.

More horsepower

Introduced as interim changes during the 2004 model year are three new horsepower and torque options for the Duramax 7800 inline-six diesel engine: 275 horsepower (205 kw) and 800 lb.-ft. of torque (1106 Nm); 275 horsepower (205 kw) and 860 lb.-ft. of torque (1189 Nm); and 300 horsepower (224 kw) and 860 lb.-ft. of torque (1189 Nm). As a result of these enhancements, T-Series customers now can choose horsepower ratings from 200 to 300 (149 to 224 kw) and torque ratings from 520 to 860 lb.-ft. (719 to 1189 Nm).

No matter which options they select, customers will benefit from unparalleled reliability in a medium duty commercial truck. The Duramax 7800 lives up to its name, offering maximum durability with a B10 rating of 410,000 miles (659,831 km), which means 90 percent of the engines are projected to operate for nearly a half-million miles (804,672 km) without needing a major overhaul.

New transmissions

Allison vocational transmissions also are added for 2005. A 2500 HS Series Allison transmission replaces the 2000 Series transmission as the standard transmission on T6500 and T7500 models in all applications. Allison 2400 and 2500 RDS are available on those models. The Allison 3000 RDS close-ratio six-speed automatic transmission is the new standard transmission on T8500 models and is available on T6500 and T7500 models. Available on all T-Series models are Allison 3500 RDS, 3000 EVS and 3500 EVS transmissions offered in five- and six-speed versions. T-Series customers also may equip their vehicles with an Eaton-Fuller manual transmission available in six-, nine- or 10-speed (8+2) configurations. (Please see the accompanying specification pages for a complete listing of engine and transmission choices.)

Additional enhancements

Chevrolet and GMC T-Series models for 2005 further benefit from a host of enhancements, including:

  • 16,000-pound front axle
  • 315/80R22.5 tires and 9-inch wheels for 16,000-pound rating
  • 40,000-pound tandem rear axle
  • Trailer wiring
  • Dealer-programmable features for the Duramax 7800 engine using the Tech 2 tool at GM medium duty dealers

Features designed to make a difference

For easier vehicle entry and exit, T-Series features wide steps, while the widest industry selection of frame and chassis components allows for installation of a broad range of vehicle bodies. T-Series also addresses an extensive range of GVW options – from 25,000 pounds to 39,000 pounds with single-rear axles and up to 56,000 pounds with the introduction of a tandem-axle model.

Available Cab to Axle (CA) length options start at 96 inches (244 cm) and go all the way to 228 inches (579 cm). The standard frame is rated at 80,000 PSI, with a 120,000-PSI heat-treated frame available. Both frames also have L-reinforcements available.

The convenience of a tilt cab

The Chevrolet and GMC T-Series medium duty commercial trucks offer an incredibly easy-to-maintain tilt-cab design. A single operator or technician can tilt the cab forward to reveal the entire engine compartment, meaning maintenance and repairs can be completed more quickly, saving both time and money by keeping the truck on the road.

Great visibility and maneuverability are T-Series strengths. The T-Series is a true medium duty commercial truck with the added benefits of a tilt cab design, plus the strengths and capabilities inherent in GM’s conventional C-Series truck offerings.

GM T-Series delivers

Offering best-in-class visibility and maneuverability, the T-Series supplements the conventional truck. While sharing many of the conventional chassis features for commonality and serviceability, the GM T-Series tilt cabs are best suited to specific applications, including operating in congested areas or where ultimate visibility and control of the vehicle are required, such as road sweepers and paint stripers.

Shorter overall length provides benefits in city operation, although body lengths up to 32 feet (9.8 m) can be accommodated. The T-Series is built in Flint, Mich., as a domestic tilt cab entry and also is marketed by Isuzu as the F-Series.
