2004 BUICK RAINIER OFFERS HOST OF LUXURY AMENITIES
IN RUGGED YET SOPHISTICATED MIDSIZE SUV

DETROIT -- In keeping with the Buick legacy of comfort and elegance, the 2004 Rainier provides an array of luxury amenities and appointments that balance its rugged truck attributes with the upscale convenience features of a well-appointed luxury sedan.

"With all the comfort and convenience features it offers – everything from world-class interior lighting and dual zone HVAC system to standard OnStar® and an optional state-of-the-art Bose audio system, Rainier will be the vehicle choice for customers who demand power and versatility in a stylish package."

Rainier’s features begin with the comfortable and luxurious interior. It includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, elegant perforated leather seats, door panels trimmed in soft-touch materials, and rich dark walnut woodgrain on the instrument panel, door handle surrounds and center console.

The front seats have six-way power seating positions and two-way power lumbar; ergonomically positioned soft armrests to help minimize driving fatigue; standard lumbar, recline and adjustable headrests; available memory functions with multiple settings; and available heated seats with separate controls for the seat back and bottom. Adjustable floor pedals are offered to accommodate all kinds of drivers.

The cabin offers drivers and passengers alike a variety of climate, entertainment, and comfort enhancing features.

• Low-level notification for oil life, washer fluid, transmission fluid life, and low key-fob battery;
• Notification for door ajar and liftgate ajar;
• Computer calculations for fuel data, estimated range, average fuel economy, instantaneous fuel economy, dual trip odometers, and elapsed time;
• Memory settings for seat position, mirror position, radio station selection, radio presets, temperature and personalization;
• English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese or Arabic language;
• Automatic door unlock can be programmed for all doors when the key is withdrawn from the ignition or when the vehicle is shifted into "park"; or driver door only when the vehicle is shifted into "park" or turned off completely;
• Key-fob feedback can be customized for the horn to sound, lights to flash, both, or turned off completely;
• Headlamp delay at exit can be customized;
• Perimeter lighting can be programmed on or off;
• Activation of memory settings can be set for when the key is in the ignition, when the key-fob is pressed, or completely turned off; and
• Automatic mirror curb view when the vehicle is shifted into reverse can be set on or off.

Dual-Zone Temperature Control – The standard automatic heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system on the Rainier features dual-zone temperature control and a high-airflow configuration that enables warm-ups and cool-downs faster than other vehicles in its class. In addition, a temperature offset of up to 25 degrees Fahrenheit can be achieved between the passenger and driver zones.

• Rear-seat HVAC control allows passengers in the rear seat to direct the air upwards out of the console vents (air conditioning) or downwards out of floor vents (heater).

The radio system for Rainier achieves a Listening Test Trialing (LTT) rating of 3.0 (nearing premium system sound) on a scale of 5.0 (premium home system sound), making it one of the midsize SUV segment’s best performing base audio systems. Its features include:

• Radio Data System (RDS) for Text Broadcast Capability.
• 200-Watt Power with Six-Speakers, one in each door and two integrated into the instrument panel;
• Pop-out controls for volume, tuning, and display settings (i.e. clock) are of a "push and pop" configuration for ergonomic and aesthetic advantages;
• Enhanced seek & display capability with a large, center-mounted vacuum fluorescent display;
• Multiple-media capability that can accommodate cassette-only playback, cassette/CD playback, or CD-only playback; and
• Optional six-disc CD Changer in the IP.

Available Bose Premium Sound – A new high performance digital audio system was designed by Bose Corporation specifically for the 2004 Rainier. Bose began the process by taking thousands of acoustic measurements throughout the cabin and used the data to customize a sound system specifically for Rainier. Bose and Buick worked closely to ensure that the system’s speakers were placed for optimum sound quality and that they blended seamlessly with the vehicle’s interior. This system includes six loudspeakers, two two-state modulation amplifiers, four low-distortion linear amplifiers, six channels of custom equalization, active equalization and custom signal processing.

DVD – A Gen III entertainment system, featuring a DVD player with wireless remote is optional. It has a seven-inch screen with on-screen programming, auxiliary stereo RCA jacks for video game systems and camcorders, and wireless headphones with separate volume controls.

XM Satellite Radio – XM Satellite Radio is available as a factory-installed option. XM offers 100 channels of digital-quality sound coast-to-coast: 71 music channels, more than 30 of them commercial-free and 29 news, sports and talk channels, all for $9.99 a month.

‘Smart’ Switches – Armrest-mounted door switches incorporate three-button memory selections that can retain a host of personalization settings, as well as available seat cushion and back heater controls

World-Class Interior Lighting – The interior lighting was designed to requirements developed by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Lighting Research Center in Indiana. Features include:

• Theatre dimming;
• Side-by-side dual-lens lighting fixtures in the headliner and above all four doors that integrate entry "puddle" lighting and reading lamps;
• Reading lamps for both first and second row seat occupants;
• Under hood lamp containing no mercury for environmental and recyclable benefits; and
• Dimmable jewel indicators on all switches.
