First All-New Chevrolet Colorado Pickup Produced in Thailand

BANGKOK – The first all-new Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup rolled off the production line today at GM Thailand’s manufacturing facility in Rayong.
The range-topping LTZ extended cab model fitted with an all-new 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine was greeted enthusiastically by the facility’s 3,500 employees and key suppliers.

GM Vehicle Line Executive for Midsize Trucks Brad Merkel and Chevrolet Colorado Chief Engineer Roberto Rempel placed a “Colorado # 1” license plate on the initial vehicle in recognition of the manufacturing team’s success. The Rayong plant is the first in the world to build the new Colorado, which will be sold in Thailand and exported.

The new Colorado range is the result of a five-year, $2 billion vehicle program developed across five continents for customers in more than 60 markets around the world. The Rayong facility underwent a $500 million transformation to prepare for production of the model. In addition, GM Thailand opened a new powertrain plant in Rayong that is producing engines for the new Colorado.
