Tru concept based on conversations with youths
At the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chevrolet presented two concept cars, the Code 130R and the Tru 140S, that are entirely based around the needs and styling ideas young people have on cars.
Rather than creating a one-size-fits-all model, Chevrolet listened to what young people had to say and created the Tru 140S according to their feedback. The result is a stylish, affordable exotic four-seat coupe.
The three-door hatchback was designed to be an attractive-yet-affordable sports car. The Tru 140S is based off the same platform as the Chevrolet Cruze and the groundbreaking Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range capability.
The vehicle's designers want to demonstrate technologies typically found in more expensive cars, including direct injection and a starter-based stop-start technology, balancing internal combustion and electrification to deliver high value and improved fuel economy.
The vehicle boasts sedan-sized functionality with the sleekness of a coupe and comfortably seats four. Connectivity is a central feature of the Tru 140S, with WiFi and smart-phone integration through Chevrolet's MyLink and heads up display. The connectivity allows for more personalization, transforming the vehicle into the owners' own docking station.
With a 1.4L Turbo Ecotec engine with approximately 150 hp, the car is expected to be no pushover. Extra urban fuel consumption s estimated around 5.9 liters per 100 km.
The vehicle's interior is still on the drawing board, and the conversation with young people will continue to further boost creativity and real innovation – and to give young people what they want.
