PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The all-new Malibu resurrects one of Chevrolet's most familiar nameplates.
It is a contemporary, midsize sedan with classic styling. The Chevy
Malibu provides quality and reliability that matches more expensive
products, and offers maximum interior space with minimum exterior size.
It's a natural fit for Chevy's high-value product lineup, positioned
between the Cavalier and Lumina.
NEW FOR 1997:
* All-new model on new chassis (scheduled to go on sale in February 1997)
* Standard 2.4-litre Twin Cam SFI L4 engine; 3.1-litre 3100 V6 engine
is standard on Malibu LS and optional on base Malibu
* Standard features include dual air bags, anti-lock brakes, PASSLock(TM)
theft-deterrent system, 4-wheel independent suspension, 4-speed
automatic
transmission, battery run-down protection, air conditioning, tilt
steering wheel, cassette player, tachometer, rear seat heat ducts,
a
state-of-the-art electrical system, and numerous other more-than-expected
standard features than found on other cars in the Malibu's price/size
range
* Standard long-life items include platinum-tip spark plugs, DEX-COOL
engine coolant, Dexron III transmission fluid, and light-emitting
diodes
for most instrument panel bulbs
* Malibu is the first Chevrolet in modern times to have the ignition
located on the instrument panel instead of the steering column
* Inspection hole in rear drum brakes allows brake shoe inspection without
removal.
