2009 MONTANA SV6: SPORTY STYLING AND MID-VAN CAPABILITY
The rugged look of an SUV and the utility of a mid-van - Pontiac's Montana SV6 delivers on both counts with a package of sporty styling, responsive performance, superior quality and segment-leading in-vehicle entertainment choices.
Montana SV6 is part of Pontiac's expanding portfolio of new products, including the 2009 Pontiac G8, G6 GXP and Torrent GXP. All of these vehicles exemplify the division's renewed spirit incorporating exhilarating driving dynamics, a bold and distinctive design language, and refined interior and exterior appointments.
Pontiac's expressive design language is seen in the Pontiac-signature dual-port grille front-end styling. Attention to detail is found throughout the interior, including the performance appearance of the instruments and superior seating material, as well as chrome appointments on the door handles and instrument ring, and brushed chrome on the center stack and steering wheel.

Responsive powertrain and chassis systems
A 3.9L V-6 engine powers the SV6. Rated at 240 horsepower (179 kW) and 240 lb.-ft. (325 Nm) of torque, the engine delivers the enthusiastic performance expected of a Pontiac. Excellent launch feel and highway-speed acceleration were parameters during the engine's development, as were reduced noise and vibration, class-leading fuel economy and reliability, and low emissions.
The 3.9L engine is mated to the Hydra-Matic 4T65 four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, which provides smooth, almost seamless shifts. Electronic safeguards built into the transmission ensure trouble-free performance. When properly equipped, a Montana SV6 can tow up to 1,588 kg (3,500 pounds).
The Montana SV6's powertrain is nestled into a chassis with cross-rail reinforcements that not only enhance stiffness, but bolster crash protection. Attached to the chassis is a MacPherson-strut front suspension and a twist-beam rear axle with integrated stabilizer bar. Seventeen-inch wheels and tires are standard, enhancing the SUV-like appearance of the vehicle. Large, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard, while GM's sophisticated StabiliTrak electronic stability system and traction control system.
Highly refined interior
The SV6 interior features low-gloss, high-quality materials and a host of clever storage and seating options. The second- and third-row seats are foldable and removable. The third-row seat features a 50/50 split and the back cushion folds flat.
Other storage details include a segment-first overhead rail system, which integrates rear HVAC, audio controls, lighting and the rear-seat entertainment/DVD system in a single unit. Snap-in storage and accessory modules provide more flexible storage options for the system. The Montana SV6 EWB also offers a flexible rear convenience center, which provides covered storage for a variety of personal items and provides a flat load floor when the third-row seats are folded.
Convenience and entertainment systems
The Montana SV6's range of available in-vehicle entertainment choices includes available XM Satellite Radio and in-vehicle entertainment system. An available DVD player with flip-down screen, integrated controls and the "tri-mode" feature allows passengers to listen to as many as three separate entertainment sources simultaneously - DVD, CD and radio - through the speakers and dual-channel wireless headphones.
XM Satellite Radio is available as a factory-installed option on more than 50 GM models. XM provides commercial-free music of every genre plus the best in news, sports, comedy and kids programming, available from coast to coast and in superior digital quality sound. Every XM-equipped GM vehicle includes three trial months beyond which service fees apply.
Safety and quality built in
The SV6 is engineered to be among the safest vehicles in its segment. The frame is designed to achieve effective crush, helping preserve occupant space while absorbing energy. A longer front-end compartment provides more crush space, while the longer, more heavily reinforced engine compartment side frame rails increase energy absorption during frontal impacts. The extensive use of high-strength steel is behind many of its structural enhancements.
All seating positions in the 2009 Montana SV6 have three-point safety belts. The SV6 also has dual-stage frontal air bags for supplemental protection for front seat passengers. Dual-stage frontal air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of air bag-induced injury. When the air bag system's control unit detects an impact, it determines whether the crash is severe enough to trigger a deployment, and whether the primary amount of inflation is sufficient. The primary stage alone will deploy in most frontal impacts requiring the supplemental protection of an air bag, while a secondary stage is designed to deploy in more severe frontal collisions.
Montana SV6 also has pretensioners in the outboard front safety belt system that deploy at the same time as the frontal air bags to take up slack in the safety belt webbing. Pretensioners also help reduce the amount of occupant movement in the event of a crash to help reduce the risk of injury.
Montana SV6 is equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system anchors for child safety seats. This system provides two lower anchors and a top tether anchor to be used to secure a child seat to the vehicle seat structure. These anchorages are designed to make it easier to properly install compatible child safety seats.
The OnStar system is standard on Montana SV6. OnStar-equipped SV6's feature OnStar dual-mode (analogue-digital) equipment. OnStar's digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. The OnStar service standard on the 2009 SV6 includes the General Motors Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system, making crash data available to the participating 911 centres to help them dispatch the appropriate life-saving personnel and equipment to crash scenes faster.
