Rüsselsheim/Frankfurt.  Further decreases in consumption figures and new features are just two of the elements that distinguish the Opel 2012 model year. Thanks to the expanded offer of ecoFLEX technologies throughout the passenger car portfolio, the number of fuel-saving ecoFLEX models grows – depending on the market – to a total of over 60, more than doubling in volume.

The new Astra ecoFLEX is a perfect example of the fuel savings ecoFLEX technology achieves in combination with Start/Stop. At just 99 g/km CO2 (3.7 liters diesel per 100 km) it is the cleanest, most economical Astra of all time – and that even with an impressive output of 96 kW/130 hp. The Start/Stop system is now also available with gasoline engines for the Corsa. In the 1.2 and 1.4 liter models it achieves an average reduction in fuel consumption of 0.4 liters per 100 km and lowers CO2 emissions down to 119 g/km. The Meriva 1.3 CDTI is also more economical with the Start/Stop system and ecoFLEX technology. In the combined cycle, the Meriva 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX consumption is reduced by an average of 0.4 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions are lowered to just 109 g/km – one of the best values in this class.

In the Corsa range a new LPG variant (liquefied petroleum gas) featuring a newly developed Euro 5 engine with 1.2-liter displacement is now available for alternative operation with liquefied petroleum gas.

For customers who prefer a serious performance car, the 155 kW/210 hp limited edition of the Corsa OPC is now in the starting gates: the Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition.

FlexFix bicycle carrier system even more practical

Updates have also been made to Opel-typical flexibility: the highly practical FlexFix bicycle carrier system can now also optionally be combined with the Park Pilot in the Corsa, Meriva and five-door Astra. The FlexFix innovation remains exclusively available from Opel. As announced during the Astra Sports Tourer market launch at the end of last year, the Opel bicycle carrier is also available in this Astra model. The Sports Tourer features a new-generation FlexFix which has been further developed, is even easier to use and also offers expanded functionality. Another new feature available is the optional removable trailer hitch for the Corsa and Meriva.

New infotainment systems with greater scope of features for Meriva and Astra

The infotainment systems introduced in the Insignia Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa are also offered in the Meriva and Astra in model year 2012. The new systems are far superior to the CD or DVD-based predecessor versions in terms of the scope of features offered. All of the map material is stored on SD cards, and the maps can be adapted to suit individual customer needs. In addition to the default points of interest (POIs), further POIs can be downloaded and stored on the device. Another practical feature: as well as the fastest and shortest routes, the navigation system also allows the selection of the most economical, i.e. lowest fuel consumption routes.

The Navi 900 Europa system also offers a voice recognition and log book function – the latter with the option of separating private and business trips.

Opel Agila: 1.0 ecoFLEX now with 109 g/km CO2

With model year 2012 the Opel Agila 1.0 ecoFLEX features an increased power output of 50 kW/68 hp (previously 48 kW/65 hp) as well as lowered fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In the combined cycle, the Agila 1.0 ecoFLEX consumption is reduced by an average of 0.3 liters per 100 km down to 4.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions are down to just
109 g/km. This was achieved by optimized engine friction, Dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and an advanced alternator.

As of November, an Agila 1.0 ecoFLEX version with Start/Stop system and even lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions will be available.

Opel Corsa: Start/Stop technology now also with gasoline engines

Last year it was a new chassis and new steering, at the beginning of 2011 a new face, an expanded Color Line offer and an especially low-consumption ecoFLEX model with just 94 g/km CO2 – the Corsa continuously comes up with attractive refinements, and model year 2012 is no different.

In addition to the 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX engines (55 kW/75 hp and 70 kW/95 hp), the gasoline engines 1.2 ecoFLEX (63 kW/85 hp) and 1.4 ecoFLEX (64 kW/87 hp and 74 kW/100 hp) are now also available with the Start/Stop system. They come with a high-performance battery, a heavy-duty starter and low-rolling-resistance 185/65 R 15 tires.

A major advantage of the Start/Stop system is that in the combined cycle, consumption is reduced by an average of 0.4 liters to 5.1 liters per 100 km for the 1.2 unit and to 5.3 l/100 km for both 1.4 engines. In urban driving, it is even reduced by up to 0.8 liters per 100 km. This enables a reduction in CO2 emissions in the Corsa gasoline variants down to 119 g/km.

Another highlight in the Corsa ecoFLEX engine offer is the newly developed 1.2 LPG ecoFLEX. It is bi-fuel and runs on gasoline or low-priced liquefied petroleum gas (currently around 0.72 euro per liter). In gasoline operation it reaches output of 63 kW/85 hp and in LPG operation 61 kW/83 hp. It meets the stringent Euro 5 emissions standard in both operating modes and is also environmentally compatible with low CO2 emissions (110 g/km in LPG operation, three-door model).

Hot Corsa for passionate drivers: The OPC Nürburgring Edition

For those who prefer a serious sports car, Opel has a special highlight in model year 2012 – the new top model in the Corsa line, the Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition. Compared to the standard Corsa OPC, the OPC Nürburgring Edition with the 1.6 turbo engine offers even higher power (155 kW/210 hp instead of 141 kW/192 hp) and higher torque (with overboost function: up to 280 Nm instead of 266 Nm for the Corsa OPC). It also comes with a newly developed Bilstein performance chassis, a mechanical multi-plate limited slip differential and a front braking system by Brembo that keep the sports car performance safely on the road. The Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds (0.4 seconds faster than the standard OPC version) and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h (instead of 225 km/h).

Features include 18-inch alloy wheels, OPC Recaro sport seats for driver and front passenger and the Nürburgring logo on the seats and the B-pillars. The Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition will cost in Germany 27,650 Euro (incl. VAT).

Opel Meriva: Only 109 g/km CO2 with Start/Stop system and ecoFLEX technology

Similar to the Corsa, Opel also expands the offer of engines with Start/Stop and ecoFLEX-technology for the Meriva. It is now available with the 1.3 CDTI (70 kW/95 hp) as ecoFLEX model with Start/Stop, a high-performance battery, heavy-duty starter and low-rolling-resistance tires. The resulting performance values are impressive: with the 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX, consumption is reduced in urban operation to 4.8 liters (previously 5.6 liters), and thus by 0.8 liters per 100 km. Even in the combined cycle the fuel-saving technology leaves its mark, with an average of 0.4 liters of diesel less per 100 km. And with CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km, the Meriva 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX with Start/Stop is among the best in its class.

Opel Astra: Two new ecoFLEX models with only 99 g/km CO2

Another important point on the Astra’s agenda is reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, so the successful compact car is now available with a large selection of engines with the Start/Stop system.

Model year 2012 brings a new 1.7 CDTI engine into the Astra family. The highlight of the friction-optimized, common-rail turbo diesel is a new engine management system completely designed by Opel engineers. It ensures optimum performance, lower consumption as well as less noise and vibration. The new 1.7 CDTI engine is available in two output levels: 81 kW/110 hp and 96 kW/130 hp with maximum torque of 280 and 300 Nm respectively.

The five-door Astra ecoFLEX model is available with both 1.7 CDTI output versions and offers a unique combination of economical driving and sophisticated performance. It has a fuel consumption of just 3.7 liters diesel per 100 km and CO2 emissions of only 99 g/km – thus making it the cleanest, most economical Astra. The Astra ecoFLEX model features a Start/Stop system, a high-performance battery, a heavy-duty starter and low-rolling-resistance tires. In addition, it comprises a brake energy recuperation system, an optimized gearbox, optimized thermal management, an active aeroshutter in the radiator grille, a lowered chassis and LED daytime running lights.

Both 1.7 CDTI engine versions are also available in combination with an ecoFLEX technology package. The package comprises a Start/Stop system, a high-performance battery, a heavy-duty starter and low-rolling-resistance tires. It reduces fuel consumption in the 81 kW/110 hp and the 96 kW/130 hp variants to 4.3 liters diesel per 100 km and lowers CO2 emissions in the five-door Astra to 114 g/km (Astra Sports Tourer: 4.4 liters per
100 km and 118 g/km CO2).

The 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX model (70 kW/95 hp) and the 121 kW/165 hp 2.0 CDTI with ecoFLEX technology package (previously 118 kW/160 hp), have already been available with Start/Stop system for a number of months.
