Biography of John P. Gaydash

As director of marketing for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations (FCO), John Gaydash has responsibility for the brand management of GM Alternative Fuel Vehicles. In addition, the brand managers for Mobility, Commercial Vans, Medium Duty Trucks and Commercial and Fleet Cross Brand Marketing and Advertising report to Gaydash. Special vehicle manufacturers that upfit products into buses, tow trucks, etc. and specialty vehicles such as police cars, taxis and shuttles also are under Gaydash's direction.

Prior to this assignment, Gaydash served as the brand manager for Commercial Vans within FCO, which included brand management of the Chevy Express and Astro Vans as well as the GMC Savana and Safari cargo, passenger, cutaway and conversion van models. Gaydash came to FCO from Chevrolet van brand management when the commercial van team was moved under the Fleet and Commercial organization in 1999.

When Gaydash was appointed Chevy van brand manager in 1995, he was responsible for creating the market presence of the product, building brand equity, developing advertising and establishing price position.

Gaydash graduated from Cleveland State University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting. He obtained a master's degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990 and is a Sloan Fellow.

Gaydash began his General Motors career at Chevrolet in 1973 as a senior accounting clerk at the Chevrolet Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland, Ohio. He was named an accountant in 1975, a supervisor in 1977 and a staff assistant

in 1979 at Chevrolet headquarters in Warren, Mich. From 1981 to 1983, he held many assignments as a staff assistant and administrator on the Corporate Comptroller's Staff of GM in Detroit.

Gaydash became a senior administrator - product programs with the General Motors Truck Group in 1984. He was named director of strategic business and product planning in 1990 and group director of all truck planning activities in 1992.

In 1993, Gaydash was named director of North American Operations truck planning while retaining his previous planning responsibilities. The following year, he was named platform manager for Midsize Vans, the position he held until joining Chevrolet in 1995.
